ABOUT THE PRODUCER

David Puttnam (1941 - ) British producer who raised the level of British film-making during the eighties, and then had Columbia for several years before returning to producing.

Two of this other films, THE KILLING FIELDS (84) and THE MISSION (86) were also nominated for Best Picture.

Puttnam's other works include: MELODY, MAHLER, LISZTOMANIA, BUGSY MALONE, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, LOCAL HERO, and DEFENCE OF THE REALM.

Colin Welland received the Screenplay Oscar.
