Movies such as the RAMBO series, Apocalypse Now, war movies in general, Terminator 2, TV Shows: Sea Hunt, and Father Knows Best, as well as scenes from much-loved romantic classics, such as Casablanca, and Lady and the Tramp, are all lampooned in this comedic masterpiece, under the satirical eye of writer/director Jim Abrahams, who really outdoes himself in his hilarious version of the traditional tale of how a "crack, military team", goes in to save "the guys." Being held as prisoners in a middle eastern country, run by a "Swarthy Despot," a dead ringer for Saddam Hussein, these prisoners' only hope lies in the leadership, toughness, and bravery of Topper Harley (Sheen), the leader of this daring rescue squad. This rescue party includes a beautiful CIA Agent (Brenda Bakke), and a former girl friend turned freedom fighter (Valerie Golino), a "cowardly commando," Miguel Ferrer, and the zany President, Lloyd Bridges.

How the cast could keep a straight face through all the satirical situations, hilarious sight gags, "heavy-caliber puns" in this "wacko action comedy," shows what professionals they are, and what a genius Jim Abrahams is at directing this type of movie genre. The entire cast worked very well together and had a great time with this hilarious script. Comic timing and delivery of lines worked together very well with all the spoofs, and sight gags.

Charlie Sheen, Brenda Bakke, and Valerie Golino had great, on-screen chemistry, fulfilling the satirical humor envisioned in the script. Charlie Sheen works well with all the actors, and is in most of the scenes. His steady, comic parody of a manly man carries the movie well through all the zaniness of the plot.

Sheen and Miguel Ferrer have a hilarious scene together, a "heart to heart," in the middle of taking the compound, which pokes fun at an old black and white television show, "Father Knows Best," which starred Robert Young, among others.

Richard Crenna (Colonel Denton Walters), a fine actor who has a long, successful acting career, took his role seriously, and played his character straight as an arrow, through all the satirical situations and insane circumstances that his character found himself in, which adds a lot to the enjoyment of the movie.

Lloyd Bridges, who had a serious 1960's television series, called Sea Hunt, has really shown his comedic talent under the direction of Jim Abrahams, in this movie, and other Abraham films, such as "Airplane."

Favorite Scenes Include: Meatball memories, No stranger to Pain, Ignorant Fishermen action sequence, Infiltrating the Camp, Fight and Breakout Sequences, Fight between Harley and the Despot, and the Frozen Dictator.

PG-13 rating - There is one hot, but hilarious love scene between Harley and the CIA Agent, which definitely isn't for children. It satirizes a scene from "Basic Instinct." The violence is of the cartoon variety, and is in many cases part of the humor. The kick-boxing scene in the beginning of the film, can upset younger children, and isn't appropriate for children under 13 as it is crude. Parents should view the movie first, to see if it is appropriate for their children.

This is a great movie for someone who needs a big laugh, and is sure to provide many laughs for most people.
