With slightly egomaniacal Pope Julius eager to produce works that will honor and remember his legacy in the Catholic Church, he hires artist protege Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel. Battling to unite Italy on the fields by day, painter by night, Michelangelo responds to the increasing pressure the Pope places on him to finish the magnificent ceiling at a rapid pace.
