Anna Karenina (1935)

As the Tolstoy inspired classic sets the film several weeks following the initial meeting of protagonist couple Vronsky and Anna Karenina, the film focuses on both their relationship and a young woman named Kitty. With Kitty being Anna's sister-in-law whose very marital problems resulted in Kitty's aiding Anna's arrival to Moscow, we see how quickly things turn ugly as Kitty's hopes of snagging Vronsky are snuffed by the arrival of the beautiful Anna. As Kitty begrudgingly turns her focus towards another Tolstoy-esque like suitor, the story becomes full of dramatically delightful entertainment.

The cast includes: Greta Garbo, Maureen O'Sullivan, Fredric March, Freddie Bartholomeux, Basil Rathbone, May Robson, and Reginald Owen.

Directed by: Clarence Brown.
