When a series of small meteorites bludgeons New York city, NASA promptly discovers their origin to be of a Texas-sized asteroid that's on course to collide with Earth. NASA assigns the best core driller in the world, Harry Stamper, the job of training the astronauts that will be sent to the asteroid's surface where they will drill to the meteors core and detonate a carefully placed nuclear warhead. Inept to accurately train the men in only ten days, Stamper brings on his slapstick drilling crew, including his daughter's fiancé, to save the Earth.
