When declining film star/drunken fool Norman Maine accidentally stumbles into showgirl Esther Blodgett, an uncanny friendship slowly evolves into an even more unlikely romance. But when Esther's career begins to sky-rocket in tandem with Norman's declining star status, will the competitive tension between the two fame seekers get in the way of their love?
