Based on the historical tragedy of notorious seductress Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, and her attempt to secure her power by playing off of the tension in the Roman Empire. With both Caesar and his nemesis, Mar Antony, falling in love with her beauty, it soon becomes clear that political and romantic motives must be separated as Cleopatra struggles to keep her emotions at bay and make the right political move. Naturally, the tragedy ends with the death of the beautiful Queen and her Egypt falling under the rule of the Roman Empire.

The cast includes: Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Pamela Brown, George Cole, Hume Cronyn, Cesare Danova, Andrew Keir, Martin Landau, and Roddy McDowell.

CLEOPATRA was nominated for the Best Picture award.
