Based on the novel by Carl Sagan, "Contact" is a film about radio astronomer Dr. Arroway and her sudden breakthrough communication with deep space. With the help of a fellow scientist, Palmer Joss, the two decipher the message and set about convincing the department to follow its instructions; build a technologically advanced machine that will send a selected scientist to the place of contact. But will the machine just be a death ploy, an opportunity to converse with extraterrestrials, or something different altogether?
