With England in the midst of religious conflict, catholic Queen Mary is dying. Her protestant half-sister Elizabeth is next in line of succession and as Queen Mary passes the new queen finds herself surrounded by advisors with their own religious agendas. In addition, the queen is being put under pressure to marry and conceive an heir to the throne; her lover, Lord Dudley, not deemed suitable. With much to consider, Elizabeth must first learn how to rule England before her advisors run it for her.
