Salesman Elmer Gantry pairs with evangelist Sister Sharon Falconer to sell religion to America's doors in the 1920's. After raising enough money to build a temple Falconer begins to fall for Elmer. With Elmer doing his best to withstand temptation and Sister Falconer teetering on her fine line of faith, it seems fate might have to intervene with a heavy dose of reality to save their delicate souls from the likes of fame and blind faith.
