Empire of the Sun (1987) -- PG

Christian Bale (in his feature-film debut) plays Jim, a young British expatriate separated from his parents when the Japanese Army invades Shanghai at the outset of World War II. After his internment in a civilian prison camp, Jim falls in with a group of American prisoners led by John Malkovich and becomes the mascot of the camp … all while the tidings of war grow ominous for the Japanese.

The cast includes: Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Miranda Richardson, Nigel Havers, Joe Pantoliano, and Ben Stiller.
