Plot: Roman general, Maximus, beloved predecessor to Emperor Marcus Aurelius, is unjustly condemned to death after the Emperor's son, Commodus, betrays his father's wishes in a jealous act of rage. With his family slain, and his future destined as a doomed fighter in the Gladiator games, Maximus fights his way to the top of the fighter's chain in an effort to survive so he can one day look into the eyes of his betrayer.
