Woody Allen plays washed-up director Val Waxman, reduced to directing TV commercials at the tail-end of a career that peaked twenty years ago. When he suddenly gets an offer to make a big film again, he goes psychosomatically blind from paranoia. Aided by friends, Waxman covers up his disability and fakes his way through one near-miss after another, fooling studio execs and his own cast along the way.
