Quarrelling couple Julie Marsten and Pres Dillard are to announce their engagement at New Orlean's fanfare event, the Olympus Ball. Upset however, Julie intends instead on embarrassing Pres at the event but things go awry and the engagement ends. Three years later Pres shows up to Julie's plantation with his new wife Amy. However, when a fever epidemic breaks out in New Orleans it is Julie that arrives at Pres' bedside to nurse him back to health.

The cast includes: Henry Fonda, Bette Davis, George Brent, Margaret Lindsay, Donald Crisp, Gordon Oliver, and Theresa Harris.

JEZEBEL was nominated for the Best Picture award.
