On the island of Cape Breton, Dr. Richardson has taken a liking to a small town mute Belinda. After helping her learn sign language and the art of lip reading she quickly falls for Dr. Richardson's caring ways. But alone one night, Belinda is raped by the town bully Locky MacCormick and winds up pregnant. With the whole town assuming Dr. Richardson to be the father and Belinda as an unsuitable mother, the town votes for the Locky and his wife Stella to take custody of the child. But when Locky comes to take the child Belinda avenges her injustice by shooting Locky, landing herself on trial for murder. Now its up to Dr. Richardson to avenge Belinda before it's too late.
