Nearly a century old, Jack Crabb is approached by an oral history collector who wishes to know Crabb's past. The film focuses around his entertaining nostalgia for the days when he was captured and raised by Indians, watching his Indian wife murdered by General Custer, and acting as Custer's scout during the infamous event at Little Big Horn.

The cast includes: Dustin Hoffman, Richard Mulligan, Faye Dunaway, Chief Dan George, Martin Balsam, Jeff Corey, and Kelly Jean Peters.
