The Turkish courts have sentenced Billy Hayes to twenty years in prison so as to make an example of his disrespect after he was caught trying to smuggle drugs out of the country. With only two options for freedom, Hayes if forced to decide whether to rely on the appeals of his lawyer, family, and the US government, or to take a ride on the "Midnight Express".

The cast includes: Irene Miracle, Brad Davis, Bo Hopkins, Randy Quaid, Paolo Bonacelli, Paul L. Smith, Mike Kellin, Norbert Weisser, and John Hurt.

MIDNIGHT EXPRESS was nominated for the Best Picture award.
