Mr. Skeffington (1944)

When Job Skeffington informs Fanny Trellis that her brother Trippy has embezzled money from the Skeffington bank, she decides to marry Job in an attempt to protect her brother from legal danger.  Angry at her for her foolish decision, however, Trippy enlists in the WWI army and is killed overseas.  Consequently, Fanny divorces Job, sending her daughter to live with him over in Europe.  Meanwhile, Fanny takes up with a host of potential new suitors.  But as WWII approaches, Fanny's daughter rejoins her and, after a run with diptheria, Fanny's beauty causes permanent physical damage, enabling her beautiful daughter to run off with her latest fling.  Of course, the now penniless and blind Job is coincidentally returning to America just in time to complicate matters...
