Young traveler Mi Taylor decides to roam the English country-side with the aid of his father's journal to guide him. Along his journey he encounters the Brown family and their youngest daughter Velvet. When Velvet wins a mare named Pie in a small-town lottery Mi offers to help train the girl and her horse for the greatest racing event in all of England: the Grand National.
