The film spotlights three tales, all set in New York: (1) the first story, directed by Scorcese, tells of the adventures of a painter, his assistant, and the benefits of music; (2) Coppola directs the second tale about a ballsy aristocratic 12 year-old’s efforts to reunite his separated parents; (3) Woody Allen directs the final tale, a comedic vignette about the interminability of the 'son's role'. The cast includes: Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Nick Nolte, Rosanna Arquette, Ira Wheeler, Mae Questel, Marvin Chatinover, Joan Bud, Michael Rizzo, Jessie Keosian, George Schindler, and Larry David.
