The Public Enemy (1931)

Set in 1909, the film revolves around juvenile criminals Matt Doyle and Tom Powers. While Tom is constantly compared to his straight-shooting teenage brother Mike, he and Matt pursue an active criminal lifestyle under gang leader Nails Nathan. But when Nathan suddenly dies in an accident, the gang is left vulnerable and open to assault by rival gangs. Meanwhile Tom's brother Mike is constantly trying to lead him back onto the path of righteousness, but the death of his best friend Matt complicates the quest.

The cast includes: Jean Harlow, James Cagney, Edward Woods, Joan Blondell, Leslie Fenton, Donald Cook, and Beryl Mercer.
