With the Cold War ending, CIA agent Nathan Muir closes in on retirement when his protégé Tom Bishop is suddenly arrested in China on account of espionage. Since the US President refuses to step in and the CIA is hanging Bishop out to dry Muir is left to construct a spy game of his own to try to save Bishop before it is too late. Meanwhile a series of flashbacks recount the days of Bishop's apprenticeship to Muir and of the one woman who threatened their friendship.

The cast includes: Robert Redford, Brad Pitt, Stephen Dillane, Catherine McCormack, Larry Bryggman, Todd Boyce, and Marriane Jean-Baptiste.
