When the unpolished Stella Martin manages to marry established Stephen Dallas, the nuptial seems doomed from the start. But the two take on parenthood and conceive a daughter, Laurel. As fate would have it the two divorce, leaving Stella to raise Laurel on her own while Stephen remarries an upstanding widow, Miss Helen Morrison. Determined to do right by her daughter, Stella takes Laurel to a fancy resort where certain embarrassing incidents reveal that perhaps Laurel would be better off without Stella’s assistance.
