The Champ (1979)

A champion ex-boxer turned horse trainer (Jon Voight) is fighting an uphill battle with his wealthy but emotionally insecure ex-wife (Faye Dunaway) for custody of their son (Ricky Schroder). To raise the money needed for the coming court battle, Voight, who has drinking and gambling problems, returns to the ring in a comeback fight with everything at stake. Director Franco Zeferelli's first American feature is an emotionally intense tear-jerker deluxe.
