When pool shark "Fast Eddy" Felson discovers the promising Vincent, he offers to teach the young protégé how to be a hustler. With his girlfriend Carmen by his side, Vincent and Eddie go cross country from pool hall to pool hall, raking in some cash along the way. But as Vincent's cocky attitude begins to dissuade potential "victims", tensions begin to raise between Eddy and his protégé who's costing him a lot of cold hard cash.
