The Last Picture Show (1971) - R

Set in a period betwen WWII and the Korean Conflict, the coming-of-age film tells of small town Anarene's lifelong friends Sonny and Duane and their adventures. With every boy in school setting his sights on Duane's girl Jacey, they fail to see that their small town is dying slowly as people head to the big cities to start a new life. Torn between home-town loyalty or the prospects of a new life beyond the borders of Anarene, Sonny and Duane contemplate the road ahead. With high school graduation just around the corner, the duo grow from boys to men and learn a little about life, love, and jealousy along the way.

The cast includes: Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepherd, Ben Johnson, Timothy Bottoms, Cloris Leachman, Eillen Brennan, Ellen Burstyn, Clu Gulager, Sharon Ulrick, and Sam Bottoms.

THE LAST PICTURE SHOW was nominated for the Best Picture award.
