The Third Man (1949)

Holly Martins, American fiction novelist, travels to Vienna on behalf of the request from his friend Harry Lime. But upon arriving in Vienna, Holly learns that his friend has mysteriously died, the circumstances of which are both conflicted and suspect. As his investigation to uncover the truth behind Lime's death ensues, he finds himself entangled in the black market, international police forces, and Lime's ex-girlfriend.
