When San Francisco detective Scottie Ferguson's colleague's life is taken from a fall he is left with an unshakable fear of heights and forced to retire from the police force. Now an old pal requests Scottie's supervision over his wife Madeline who is supposedly possessed with her ancestor's spirit named Carlotta. As he follows Madeline through San Francisco he finds himself caught up in her fascination with death. Little does he know Madeline's included him in the complex plot he is trying to unravel.
