You Can't Cheat an Honest Man (1939)

Cunning circus ringmaster Larson E. Whipsnade struggles to control his rambunctious circus act while simultaneously evading financial debt. In the meantime Whipsnade's children, Phineas and Vicky, are receiving their higher education at a swanky college where Vicky has turned down potential (and rich) suitor Roger Bel-Goodie, that is, until she hears of her father's financial troubles. But will Vicky go through with the proposal or will Whipsnade's own charming circus act, ventriloquist Edgar Bergen, seduce the innocent girl? Another plot involving a sheriff and a race to state line also unfolds.
