THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938) This 1938 version of the Robinhood tale, has something for everyone: villains and dashing heroes,a love story, humor, entertaining sword fights, acts of courage and dastardly deeds! When King Richard is captured in the Crusades, his greedy, slimy, self-centered brother, Prince John, joins with the Norman Lords to abuse, oppress, over-tax the people, burning their property and maiming them when they couldn't pay. Robin Hood and his "Merry Men" rob from the rich, give to the poor, and fight the dastardly Prince John and his co-horts in villainy!
The cast includes: Errol Flynn, Olivia DeHavilland, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Ian Hunter, Eugene Pallette, Alan Hale, Melville Cooper, Patrick Knowles, and Una O'Connor. THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD was nominated for the Best Picture award. Four Oscar nominations; three wins (Film Editing, Original Score, and Art Direction).
