The Bourne Supremacy picks up two years later where the Bourne Identity left off. Jason and Marie are living somewhat happily off the grid in a small cottage on the beaches of Goa, India. Jason is plagued by the fragmented memories of his past and a weary but loving Marie is trying to help him through it.

Mean while in Berlin, Germany, the CIA is about to close a deal with a mole who claims to have information about $20 million in missing CIA funds that disappeared during a wire transfer through Moscow seven years ago. The deal goes bad when an assassin kills an agent, the mole and steals the files. Luckily a fingerprint is left behind at the scene.

The assassin, Kirill is a member of Russian secret police, and is doing free-lance work for one of the richest men in Russia is sent to Goa to kill Jason Bourne. Unfortunately it is Marie who is killed and Jason is left for dead. Jason finds that he must go back on the grid to find out why Treadstone (he thinks) sent someone to kill him.

Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) and Karl Urban (Kirill) do an excellent job conveying emotions to the audience without much dialog. Much is said with their eyes during their final showdown during the car chase through Moscow. Like the previous Bourne installment, Damon spent countless hours working out and in training. And it shows. Damon's golden tan, chiseled body and piercing blue eyes earn this Film an 'A' in eye candy. Sorry boys, unlike the Bond movies there is no gratuitous use of scantily-clad women.

There are several returning characters in the sequel. All three now have larger roles and their character's are better developed. Scottish actor Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity, Troy, The Ring, and Braveheart) plays Ward Abbott who is the former head of touchstone. In the Bourne Identity he did little else but yell at Conklin and look all menacing and conspiracy like. His character now takes on a central role, and we learn more about the shady history of Touchstone. Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You, Mona Lisa Smile) is back as Nicky. Nicky has matured and is brought to aid the taskforce in catching Bourne. Gabriel Mann (The Life of David Gale) is back as the unfortunate Agent Danny Zorn. Like Nicky and Abbott, we learn more about his significance in Touchstone and become better acquainted with his character.

Joan Allen (Face Off, Pleasantville) brings a 'cool, cerebral intelligence' to the role of Agent Landy. Agent Landy is a deputy director of the CIA who is trying to track down the CIA's missing $20 million, which put ser in pursuit of Bourne. At first it seems her character is merely a replacement of Agent Conklin, but character proves not to be the relentless pursuer but rather a motivated woman who thinks before she acts. I would not be surprised if Agent Landy resurfaces in the third installment of the Bourne Series, The Bourne Ultimatum.

The sequel spends a lot of time with character development that is spliced with face paced action scenes. One of the goals Director Greengrass had for the film was to get the audience as emotionally close to Bourne as possible. To understand him. Bourne is dark character who is struggling to not only find out who he was but how to deal with his past actions. The most touching moment of the film is when Bourne does the only thing that a person with blood on their hands can do (when they still care about self preservation), apologize and let those that he hurt know the truth.

The praise for The Bourne Supremacy for its slick action scene is well deserved. The fight scene between Bourne and one other surviving touchstone agent is choreographed to perfection. Greengrass's style gives the scene the essence of the fight and the attention to detail makes this dance of killer above average. The small things, the examples of improvision, such as Bourne's use of a rolled up magazine, remain true to Bourne's character. This style of faced paced action that maintains a fine attention to detail is consistent throughout the film. The final car chase, filmed on the streets of Moscow is further proof of that.
