SYNOPSIS...
The Intrepid is dispatched to investigate problems in the Gamma 7A system. The Enterprise is close behind. The Intrepid is destroyed, as is all life in the Gamma system.

The Enterprise discovers that a giant amoeba is responsible. Spock sets out in the shuttlecraft to investigate.

Kirk launches an anti-matter bomb at the space amoeba, saving Spock just in time. McCoy is thrilled that the Vulcan is alive.
