This episode offers an allegory to the U.S. government's stance on Vietnam in 1968. The horned, abominable snowman-type alien creature called the Mugatu, featured in this episode, is surely one of the silliest looking aliens featured in the series. As Tyree, leader of one of the planet's warrng groups and an old friend of Captain Kirk, Michael Whitney delivers a solid performance.

SYNOPSIS...
The Enterprise visits a beautiful alien world. On the surface, Kirk reunites with Tyree, an alien buddy he hasn't seen for thirteen years.

Tyree and his people are engaged in a war with a hostile alien tribe, The Hill People. Kirk discovers that the Klingon's are supplying the Hill People with advanced weapons.

Kirk decides to arm Tyree's people, against the advice of Dr. McCoy and others. Tyree is killed. Kirk and company exit, having established a balance of power on the planet.
