PLOT SUMMARY...

The Enterprise arrives at a planet, Eminiar VII, that's been engaged in a computer-run war, with another planet, for 500 years.

QUICK SCAN...

This episode features a major violation of the "Prime Directive" by Captain Kirk. David Opatoshu ("Exodus") is superb as Anan 7, the chief governmental official on Eminar. Barbara Babcock ("Hill Street Blues") is beautiful and sympathetic as Mea 3. This episode has a good balance between action scenes and philosophical debates. This is one of the better episodes depicting computer-run societies.

SYNOPSIS...

The Enterprise travels to the planet Eminiar 7, bringing Ambassador Robert Fox. Despite warnings, Fox, Kirk, and others beam down to the planet.

Kirk and company find out that Eminar 7 is engaged in a 500 year war with it's neighboring planet Vendikar. The war turns out to be a bloodless one, run by computers. The Enterprise becomes a war casualty.

Kirk interferes in the war to get the two planet's to come to terms with the conflict. Federation Ambassador Fox agrees to help with the negotiations.
