Star Trek Review: SPOCK'S BRAIN

Director Marc Daniels,' "SPOCK'S BRAIN," is one of the series sillier episodes. Daniels also directed numerous other classic "Treks," including: "The Naked Time" and "Court Martial".

The Teleplay was written by Gene L. Coon, using the pseudonym, "Lee Cronin". Considering the dubious quality of the episode, the pseudonym seems quite logical.

This episode features yet another computer-run society. As usual, Kirk again breaks the Prime Directive, to "free" the locals.

My favorite scene is where Spock, now part of the planet's computer, verbally gives McCoy instructions on how to reconnect his brain to his body. Leave it to the Vulcan to figure out how to assist with his own operation! Live long and suture.

A key gimmick in the episode is an alien "brain hat," which allows the wearer to temporarily boost their intelligence, allowing them to do things they couldn't ordinarily accomplish. A similar device was also featured in the film, "Forbidden Planet."

"SPOCK'S BRAIN" may be slightly watchable for some Sci-Fi viewers. Spock/Nimoy fans may be embarrassed by this episode.
