Star Trek Review: MARK OF GIDEON

Director Jud Taylor's, "MARK OF GIDEON," is a weak Sci-Fi effort.

Stanley Adams, who played galactic trader, Cyrano Jones, in "The Tribble with Tribbles", co-wrote the teleplay with George F. Slavin. Although Adams exact contribution to the final script is hard to determine, it would appear that his strengths lie in acting, not writing.

Sharon Acker is okay as the alien girl, Odona. Her character is not really interesting enough, however, to be compelling.

The episode is basically a heavy-handed treatise on the dangers of over population. While the ideas contained in the script are valid, their execution is shaky.

Much of the episode features Kirk and the alien girl, Odona, alone on what Kirk believes to be the Enterprise, minus it's crew. While the story premise may have led to an inexpensive episode, (few actors), it did not lend itself to good, or interesting, drama.

"MARK OF GIDEON" may be slightly watchable for some Sci-Fi viewers. Birth control enthusiasts may appreciate it's message.
